Blink 182!

I am going to share something that cannot be compared to anything else in my life. I am going to try and encompass the feelings into words, of the day Blink 182 performed at the Molson Amphitheater. Saturday August 8, I met up with 2 dear old friends of mine to enjoy this special occasion. A first time all of us would ever see Blink 182 perform. After kicking ourselves for 4 years after the band break-up for not attending a concert sooner, we all jumped at the chance to snag tickets for their reunion tour.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am in love with Blink 182 – especially Tom Delonge! Now to get back to the concert: This was a fluke show, since I am also going to their show on the 23rd I couldn’t afford tickets for the 8th, THAT is where my dear friend Laura came to my aid needing to sell her tickets. For the perfect price, me and 2 friends attended an extra show where I got to experience this amazing band even sooner than expected. Man, if the anticipation wasn’t killing me, hearing those first few notes of “Dumpweed” come ripping out to start the show almost did! My brain was in a complete trance the moment they started on “I Miss You” I kid you not, my heart grew 3 sizes bigger during that experience. This is the closest to love I have ever experienced! Unfortunately it is for a non-tangible object such as music, and an untouchable/unavailable band.

If this description doesn’t grip your heart, hopefully when I figure out how to upload my footage (although furthest from the stage we could possibly be) you`ll catch my drift. More to come after the SECOND show on the 23rd!!! Man, I am freaking out a thousand times more after experiencing it once. It’s like a drug (never do drugs, kids) you have it once and you just need more!

– For those of you missing out on this genuinely elating experience, I offer my sympathies and a big “HAHA IN YOUR FACE SUCKERS!” =P

Most anticipated movie of 2010, until the summer at least. You will soon come to realize that Tim Burton is my favourite director for his dark yet quirky atmosphere. Also for his innocent, strange, and surprisingly plain main characters like Edward (Edward Scissorhands), Jack (The Nightmare Before Christmas), and Adam and Barbara (Beetlejuice). Tim Burton is a visionary filmmaker, just knowing he gave Disney the shaft after a few years to do things his own way and get credit gets him my respect.

Moving on to his newest film “Alice in Wonderland” (the remake), coming out in March 2010. Can you guess what actor is going to make this movie what it is? What actor can constantly capture the essence of Burton’s vision in almost EVERY movie he’s ever made? If you didn’t guess Johnny Depp then you must have been living under a rock the past 10 years. Johnny Depp has the exceptional role as The Mad Hatter, as you will see in the above trailer (that I hope you`ll watch BEFORE reading this), Depp will have quite the role in this film, probably stealing the spotlight from Alice played by Mia Wasikowska. Alice in Wonderland was the oddest, most interesting, yet disturbing Disney movie I had ever seen as a child. I had a small obsession with it when I was younger, considering I am still in love with the story now goes to show even adults appreciate it.

In regards to the teaser I posted above, Tim Burton took on a huge project which he was sure to deliver in effects and costume. The White Rabbit looks AMAZING, Johnny Depp’s performance will be great as always, and having Helena Bonham Carter as The Red Queen what could be better? As for the Caterpillar you so famously see smoking his Hookah Alan Rickman will do a fine job giving him the eerie and untrustworthy feel he deserves (afterall, who wasn’t creeped out by Snape in Harry Potter?).

All in all I have high expectations for this film. Everyone knows the story, every child loved the Disney version, and every age should love Tim Burtons version. 10 stars on the trailer, now lets just HOPE this doesn’t get screwed up like the first Twilight movie!

Comes out April 2010. This is a miraculous movie, please watch it in HD for the full effect!

Here is a refreshing piece of music I found on youtube, this guy will become something big very soon if anyone notices. Please check him out, his voice is something to be cherished and admired. There are rare times when a young artist arises who is sincere and a true talent (not a manufactured barbie doll like so many celebrities today). AJ Rafeal, a true musician.

….85 long minutes and 45 seconds later….

Unfortunately my preconceived notions of this movie were too optimistic. The actors must have clearly needed the money. Nia Vardalos had a perma-smile the entire movie that took a nose-dive from quirky to creepy within the first 5 minutes. Seriously, did someone paste her lips to the far sides of her face? On a positive note, John Corbett was nice eye candy as always. In a sad attempt to re-create a blockbuster comedy that leaves a warmth in your heart, “I Hate Valentine’s Day” ended up as simply a cheap rendition of “He’s Just Not That Into You” mixed with “How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days” and every other movie based on dating, rules, sex, and accidentally falling in love in the meantime. Typical, predictable, and hard to watch til the end. Unless you are extremely bored and can grab this movie for free (remember kids no illigal downloads), I suggest not wasting your time.

–Although I did LOVE the token gay guys!!
